Get rich snippets with product review TrustBox widgets
Wondering how to get rich snippet stars in search engine results? Our SEO friendly TrustBox widgets can help you start earning them.
We currently offer two widgets that can be used to get rich snippets: Product Reviews SEO and Product Reviews MultiSource SEO.
What’s a rich snippet?
When search engines detect a review or rating markup (like the ones in our product review TrustBox widgets) they show a rich snippet that includes stars and other information from the reviews or ratings.
It’s important to note that rich snippets are entirely at the discretion of Google. Even if you've satisfied all of their guidelines, it's not guaranteed that rich snippets will be granted. If you want to learn more about how to use Trustpilot and Google together, check out these articles.
Verify your TrustBox widget implementation
Once you install your product review widget (find out how to do that here, if you need help), the first thing you should do to start getting rich snippets is make sure that your implementation is done properly.
Here are some troubleshooting tips:
Don't delay your TrustBox from loading
- Click to view your tested page
- Under screenshot, if all goes well, you should see your TrustBox widget. However, if you just see the words "Trustpilot" or no content at all, this is a sign that the TrustBox widget hasn't loaded.
Make sure that all users can see your SEO widget
Feature your widget prominently on your product pages. Users shouldn't have to scroll to see it. If your widget is hidden behind tabs or expand-all links, there's a chance that Google won't grant rich snippets.
Ensure your product catalog is correct
Be sure that your product catalog is accurate, up to date, and matches the product feed you send to Google. And here’s a tip: If your products don’t have a GTIN or MPN, we recommend that you add your business name as Brand and the products SKU as MPN. If you do this, it’s very important that these identifiers match and are the same in both the feed you send to Google AND the product catalog that you send to us.
Check that the Schema markup is loading
Make sure that your site loads the correct data into the Schema markup. You must include the Product SKU and product title fields.
-
Go to your website and find your product review widget. Right-click on it, then click Inspect.
Depending on your browser, this command varies. On Chrome use Inspect and on Safari use Inspect Element.
-
Make sure the HTML element includes the correct data-sku and data-name fields.
-
Scroll to the page's <head> element and find the json-ld. You can also search the element for aggregateRating. Check to see if the field's name and sku are correct.
Your widgets include different schema types depending on how they're installed:
- Widgets installed with an ecommerce integration are enriched with product, description, image, and brand markup.
- Widgets installed without an ecommerce integration are only enriched with product markup.
We don't recommend adding your own markup of the same schema type, in addition to those included in our SEO-optimized product review widgets . Duplicated markup can have a negative impact on SEO.
Verify that your SEO widget page is eligible for review snippets
If you want to make sure that your product pages with SEO widgets are properly optimized and generating rich snippets, you can perform a simple test. Copy the URL of your product page that has the SEO widget, and paste it into Google’s Rich Results Test. The page will be fetched, analyzed, and a report will be generated. If there are any issues or warnings, they'll be highlighted.
Prompt Google to crawl and index your product pages
Now that you've properly implemented your SEO widget for product reviews, it’s time to tell Google to crawl your product pages. If you sell thousands of products on your site, prompt Google to crawl your most popular products first. Here’s how to do it:
-
Log in to your Google Search Console and select your website.
-
In the Inspect any URL in "your site's name" field, enter the URL of the page that contains the TrustBox.
-
Once the URL data has been retrieved, click Request Indexing.
-
Repeat this process for all the URLs that contain the same widget.
If you get a message that says "URL is not on Google", click the Test Live URL button to find out why Google can't crawl your page.
Once Google has indexed your pages, your review snippets should begin to appear in their search results.
If your site is of low authority – one that Google doesn’t crawl very often – and if you don’t prompt Google to fetch your new content, it can take more than three months before Google crawls your product pages.
