How-To Guide: BigCommerce Application

The BigCommerce app is one of a series of apps we have built to provide seamless ways for companies to invite their customers to leave reviews on Trustpilot. The BigCommerce app framework allows Trustpilot to get all necessary data directly from your company’s webshop, passing that data to our invitation services.

Some key things to know about the BigCommerce app:

  • The app uses BigCommerce’s webhook events. The app needs the following permissions to send review invitations:
    • View orders
    • View products
    • View general store information
    • View basic customer information (name, email)
    • View and modify basic store information (This information will only be used to invite your customers to review you on Trustpilot.)
  • The app triggers Trustpilot invitations every time a new order is created in your BigCommerce webshop. Keep in mind that it’s possible to:
    • Set an invitation delay of up to 3 months
    • Collect product reviews together with service reviews
  • You can invite your past customers (up to one year)
  • It’s recommended to turn off AFS when implementing the BigCommerce app

Step-by-step instructions for setting up the BigCommerce app:

CONNECT

  1. In your Business Portal, go to Integrations Apps choose BigCommerce and click Connect now
  2. You’ll be redirected and prompted to log in to your BigCommerce account if you’re not already logged in.
  3. Install the Trustpilot Reviews app by clicking on the Install button.
  4. Confirm Trustpilot Reviews app installation by clicking on the Confirm button.

By installing Trustpilot Reviews, your company is giving Trustpilot access to:

  • View orders
  • View products
  • View general store information
  • View basic customer information (name, email)
  • View and modify basic store information
  1. Select the webshop you want to integrate with the Trustpilot Reviews app.

Note: this step is only applicable if you have more than one website registered on Trustpilot.

SETUP

  1. After connecting your website with the Trustpilot Reviews app, you will be taken to the Set up page, where you can configure your preferred invitation settings:
  • Sender Name and Sender Email: The sender information that appears in your customers’ inboxes when they receive the review invitation (note: currently the Sender Email will always be the default "noreply.invitations" Trustpilot email).
  • Reply-to Email: The email address you want your customers to use in reply to your invitation. (Reply-to emails can be added and verified via the Automatic Feedback Service page.)
  • Trustpilot Website: The Trustpilot site your customers will be sent to when writing their review.
  • Invitation Trigger: The action in BigCommerce that will trigger a new Trustpilot review invitation. The trigger we currently support is Order Created.
  • Send Delay: The number of days from when the invitation is triggered to when it is sent (maximum of 3 months).
  • Invite past customers: Allows you to invite past customers, from 7 days up to one year. (Note: If this option is missing, you already went through the setup once. Disconnect the integration and start over to get this option).

EMAIL TEMPLATE

  1. Choose the template you want to send to customers. The drop-down list of templates comes from your template library in manual review invitations. You can access and edit your manual review invitations templates in the Template Editor tab in the Business Portal. Find more information here.

Preview the email invitation by sending a test email to yourself (only for service reviews). Complete the setup by clicking on the Continue button.

CONFIRMATION

  1. Your setup should now be complete, and your review invitations will be sent to your customers shortly. From here, you can go back to edit your BigCommerce app invitation settings.

DISCONNECT

If you want to disconnect the app, we advise that you do this directly from BigCommerce. If you disconnect from the Trustpilot Business Dashboard after the installation is completed, it will not be fully uninstalled in BigCommerce and you will see errors if you try to access the app.

Known Issues

If the installation is aborted/cancelled, the app has to be uninstalled (BigCommerce side) and the installation process has to be restarted.

If, during the installation, you hit Back or Refresh on your browser the process will be aborted. The app has to be uninstalled (BigCommerce side) and the installation process has to be restarted.
