What happens if my review is flagged?

We check flagged reviews to see if they break the rules. And if they do, we take action.

Note: As part of our trust promise, we now keep flagged reviews online while we investigate them. Reviews flagged by a business as "harmful or illegal" are the only exception.

Who flagged my review?

Everyone using Trustpilot can flag reviews that breach our guidelines! Regardless of whether your review was flagged by a business or by another consumer, our Content Integrity Team will assess your review and only take action where necessary. Our robots also detect and automatically remove suspicious reviews.

What happens next depends on who flagged your review and the reason why it was flagged.

Reviews flagged by a business

All businesses can flag reviews that contravene our guidelines—regardless of whether they use our free or paid services—and we make it clear that they have a responsibility to flag reviews correctly.

For some of the flagging reasons, we first ask the business to contact you directly to address the problem. If the issue isn't resolved, they can flag your review to our Content Integrity Team, who will then either:

  • Invalidate the report if we find your review doesn't breach our rules for the specified reason.
  • Investigate further, where we may ask you to modify your review or send us documentation to verify your experience.
  • Remove your review from Trustpilot. This will happen if, for example, you weren't eligible to write a review in the first place or you don't resolve the issue to make your review compliant. You'll get an email letting you know that your review has been removed.

Reviews flagged by another consumer

Other consumers can also flag reviews that don't comply with our guidelines. Our Content Integrity Team will then either:

  • Invalidate the report if we find your review doesn't breach our rules for the specified reason.
  • Investigate further, where we may ask you to modify your review or send us documentation to verify your experience.
  • Remove your review from Trustpilot. This will happen if, for example, you weren't eligible to write a review in the first place or you don't resolve the issue to make your review compliant. You'll get an email letting you know that your review has been removed.

Reviews removed by our robots

We use advanced, customized software to scan and detect suspicious reviews. Your review could be automatically removed if, for example, we can't verify its authenticity or if it contains things like phone numbers, email addresses, links, or promotional codes.

If this occurs, you'll receive an email notifying you that your review has been removed. You'll also be given the opportunity to contact us if you believe there's been a misunderstanding.
