How to Implement a TrustBox Follow

The following article provides instructions on how to implement TrustBoxes anywhere on your website. TrustBoxes are Trustpilot's widgets - stand-alone applications that display reviews, star ratings, and TrustScores. Please note that implementation may require help from your Webmaster.

If you would like a general overview of TrustBoxes and Targeted TrustBoxes, a good place to start is by reading the following article.

Implementation Steps

  1. Log in to your Trustpilot Business Account.
  2. Click on Integrations to access the TrustBox Library. Here you will see an overview of all the TrustBoxes you have access to.
  3. You can filter to see TrustBox types, eg. TrustBoxes optimized for SEO.
  4. You can also click on TrustBoxes to see live previews.
  5. Once you've chosen a TrustBox, you can configure it by following the steps under Get your TrustBox.
  6. When you're ready to implement, click Get Code. Click the button Email me this code if you want to receive the code by email or send it to your developer by email.
  7. Copy the <script> code into the HEAD section of your website (you only have to do this once whether you're adding one or several TrustBoxes). Then add the<div> tag in the BODY where you want the TrustBox(es) to be displayed. Similar to Bootstrap, this script loads asynchronously and makes an iframe in the <div> tag. It is this iframe that loads the TrustBox.

Responsive Design

Most of our TrustBoxes are responsive. They can be configured to use different height and width attributes, making them adaptable to fit different screen sizes. They have internal breakpoints, which assure that the content position is adapted to the given dimensions. If needed, scrolling is introduced. Note: We recommend checking the minimum and maximum values of your TrustBoxe(s) before implementation.

When implemented on a website, the TrustBox is embedded in an iframe. The iframe does not fully support resizing, and therefore the TrustBox will not be completely fluid in all dimensions. This means that when you resize your browser window, the TrustBox can be fluidly resized in width but will remain fixed in height.

We recommend setting the width to 100% to make sure it matches the width of its container and can be fluidly resized in width. Adjust the height attribute at key breakpoints of your site to make sure it matches the new height of the container.

Performance & Loading Speed

TrustBoxes will not have an impact on your site performance. The TrustBox script loads asynchronously with respect to the rest of the page. Using asynchronous scripts means that your page can render more quickly, because the script loads and executes in the background while the page continues to be parsed. Therefore, loading the TrustBox script does not slow down your website.

When you load your website for the first time after implementation, it might take a while to load the TrustBox. However, once it has fetched data from the servers, it will load instantly. To be precise, data is cached in our CDN (Content Delivery Network) and delivered within 300-500 ms each time the site is loaded with the TrustBox.

If a TrustBox is very slow to load, a fall-back image will be shown while the TrustBox loads in the background. It will disappear as soon as the TrustBox is ready.

If Trustpilot experiences downtime, then the TrustBoxes will also experience downtime.
