If you want to send Trustpilot invitations with your own domain as the sender, create an SPF record or edit your current one to allow us to send emails on your behalf.

SPF (Sender Policy Framework) is a method of combatting email spoofing. It prevents third parties from impersonating your organization and sending unauthorised emails that appear as if they come from your own domain name.

An SPF record publicly grants Trustpilot permission to use your sender address, so your review invitations won't be marked as suspicious by your customers' email servers.

Simply put, an SPF record is a way of granting Trustpilot permission to send emails on your behalf, so that they appear in your customers' inboxes as if you had sent them, from your domain.

Set up an SPF record

If you don’t know how to set up an SPF record on your domain, most hosting companies are happy to help you with this. Once you have an SPF record set up, you need to add as a verified sender.

Tips for hosting companies and web administrators

Here are a few important rules to remember:

  • If you have an SPF record already, add to it and ensure the entire record ends with -all.
  • The field where you enter the SPF record can have a maximum of 255 characters.
  • The whole SPF record must not require more than 10 recursive DNS queries to be resolved.

Remember, if you don't follow the best practices guidelines for setting up your SPF record, it may be invalid and won't work.

Once everything is set up, you must wait for the rest of the world to receive the changes. This takes approximately 24 hours. There are several free third-party tools available online you can use to check if your SPF record has been updated and is ready for use.
